J.M.?The composition of this celebrated remedy for Remittent Fever is stated by Dr. W C. Maclean (in Lancet 1875) to be as follows :? Aloes (Socotr.) 1 dram, Rad. Rhei (East India), Sem. Agelicas, * Confect. Damocratis, ana uucias qnatuor ; Rad. Helenis (S. Enulce), Croci Sativi, Sem. Foeniculi, f Cret. proeparat, ana unc. duas; Had. Gentiance, Rad. Zedoarioe, Pip. Cubeb., Myrrh Elect., Camphoraa, % Boleti laricis, ana unciam. The above ingredients to be digested with 500 ounces of proof-spirit in a water-bath for 12 hours; then expressed, and ten ounces of disulphate of quinine added ; the mixture to be replaced in the water-batli till all quinine is dissolved. The liquor, when cool, is to be filtered, and is then fit for use.
